A part of their look which showcased this rebellious nature was the facial hair which grew about an inch and a half below their ears - sideburns.
The sideburn fad gained popularity in the 1950s as "juvenile delinquents" wore them along with leather jackets and D.A. haircuts. This popularity eventually declined because they became an added grooming task, which most young men were unwilling to undertake. Sideburns now make a comeback approximately every 20 years.
