The sideburn fad gained popularity in the 1950s as “juvenile delinquents” wore them along with leather jackets and D.A. haircuts. This popularity eventually declined because they became an added grooming task, which most young men were unwilling to undertake. Sideburns now make a comeback approximately every 20 years. The Rebel – this tag has been placed on such stars as James Dean and Elvis Presley, denoting their roles in movies and entertainment as Juvenile Delinquents and trend breakers.
A part of their look which showcased this rebellious nature was the facial hair which grew about an inch and a half below their ears – sideburns.
